Metaheuristic procedures for the lexicographic bottleneck assembly line balancing problem

The goal of this work is to develop an improved procedure for the solution of the lexicographic bottleneck variant of the assembly line balancing problem (LB-ALBP). The objective of the LB-ALBP is to minimize the workload of the most heavily loaded workstation, followed by the workload of the second most heavily loaded workstation and so on. This problem-recently introduced to the literature (Pastor, 2011)-has practical relevance to manufacturing facilities. We design, implement and fine-tune GRASP, tabu search (TS) and scatter search (SS) heuristics for the LB-ALBP and show that our procedures are able to obtain solutions of a quality that outperforms previous approaches. In this paper the human resource management in manual mixed model assembly U-lines is considered. The objective is to minimise the total conveyor stoppage time to achieve the full efficiency of the line. A model, that includes effects of the human resource, was developed in order to evaluate human factor policies impact on the optimal solution of this line sequencing problem. AGV-served assembly lines: influence of sequencing and launch policies on system performances

SUMMARY The planning of an AGV-based flexible assembly line is studied. The conflicting objectives of the minimization of the AGVs wait along the line and of the maximization of the system productivity are investigated. To improve the system performances the late start policy to launch and transfer the AGVs is introduced and a heuristic sequencing algorithm is proposed. The developed computer-aided planning procedures make it possible to consider different AGV launch policies, buffer capacities and management goals; moreover, with the combined use of effective sequences a better utilization of the different resources is reached.
Analysis and design of sequencing rules for car sequencing

Abstract This paper presents novel approaches for generating sequencing rules for the car sequencing (CS) problem in cases of two and multiple processing times per station. The CS problem decides on the succession of different car models launched down a mixed-model assembly line. It aims to avoid work overloads at the stations of the line by applying so-called sequencing rules, which restrict the maximum occurrence of labor-intensive options in a subsequence of a certain length. An evolutionary approach to multi-objective scheduling of mixed model assembly lines

In this paper a multi-objective genetic algorithm for the scheduling of a mixed model assembly line is proposed, pursuing the line stop time minimisation together with the component usage smoothing. Specific features of the developed GA are step by step random selection of diversified crossover and mutation operators, population control for the substitution of duplicate chromosomes, and in-process updating of GA control parameters. Three different formulation of the fitness function were been tested with some distinct line configurations.

AbstractThe car sequencing problem determines sequences of different car models launched down a mixed- model assembly line. To avoid work overloads of workforce, car sequencing restricts the maximum occurrence of labor-intensive options, e.g., a sunroof, by applying sequencing rules. We consider this problem in a resequencing context, where a given number of buffers (denoted as pull-off tables) is available for rearranging a stirred sequence. The problem is formalized and suited solution procedures are developed. A lower bound and a dominance rule are introduced which both reduce the running time of our graph approach. Finally, a real-world resequencing setting is investigated.
